| Overview |
Information system space will be needed in future at every situation that is not only guaranteed with relief and safety but also able to provide comfortable and stress-free services for human activities. Especially in Japan, with a diminishing number of children and a growing in proportion of elderly people, it is important to develop of Information systems that enable all of people as well as elderly to keep their life safe.
These information systems have been desired to produce an effect of high convenience for coexistence between human and robotics in the near future. Additionally, human and robotics have been required to be able to mutually make an intelligent decision with “safety and cleverness”.
The conventional systems had used existing sensors, such as photo diodes, piezoelectric devices, CCDs and proximity sensors, as a result, been limited to get its presence information to decide when the services should start. Therefore, the conventional sensing systems have lacked their functionality, realizability and to be less-developed for commercial usage under existing circumstances.
However, these support systems have new potential and open to various markets for business fields, because it is necessary for these systems to be considered as applications for personal spaces, such as home security, environment of elderly living alone and health monitoring for home with seismic adequacy, and public spaces, such as safety of offices, working spaces, surrounding land forms and natural environments. |

In our project, 1) new characteristic sensing techniques, that are indoor positioning system with high accuracy and fiber optic nerve sensing network combining with communication, are employed and enable to dramatically improve the quality of presence information such as position and objects discrimination, and 2) construction of intelligent monitoring space equipping with adjustability of various services due to the network, in which sensing nodes(SPAN: Smart Passive/Active Node) are intelligently combined and properly arranged to integrate the presence information, and 3) multilayered and valuable decisions make ubiquitous service space in whole distributed network instead of conventional sensing services that individual sensors had provided with their limited functions at their individual situations. |

In our project, we are aiming to achieve the intelligent space, might be so called “context aware space”, has been desired in which various aware services could be offered in for every situation including coexistence between human and robotics to create comfortable human daily life with less stress.
In the course of our project, conventional monotonic services made by standardized decision, so-called "cool" function made by a single-event-to-single-sensing, are significantly extended to the aware services based on a warmhearted-event- to-a multiple-sensing by means of employing our new technology for sensing and combining various information and motivation of action delicately.
We perform the management of technology in practical according to collaboration with university and industries, and these results are expanded into industrial applications in various forms.
In addition, due to accomplish our project with graduate school students, we can create a lot of academic and practical achievements of research and give real engineering education in the graduate school. |
